Houses That Smell, Don’t Sell
Posted by Deane in Preparation on September 3, 2009
Houses that smell, don’t sell. How is that for a subtle selling tip? Sorry to be so blunt but it’s the truth. Now that I’ve finally been able to open up the house again, I realize how much fresher everything smells. That, and allergy season, have inspired this post.
If your house ever smells like smoke, mold, kitty litter, wet dog, hamster cage, damp basement when you are trying to sell it, you need an air purifier. You’ll never sell your house, otherwise.
If a house hunter comes into your house and starts sneezing because they are allergic to your pets, your basement, or the pollen in your area, forget it! They’ll run, not walk, out the door. That is why I strongly urge you to get an air purifier.
If you don’t already have a good one, I recommend Ultra Air Pure (see the list “Helpful Products and Services” on the left of this post). They offer a 9 stage unit that is the best state-of-the-art purifier for the money. They even have a mini version for your car!
And if you or anyone in your family suffers from allergies, now is the time to beat the hay fever season. This will help.
If you have to mask odors temporarily in a pinch, try unscented Oust. That’s great stuff.
So remember to sell your house in this market, make sure your house always smells great. Baking cookies when having an open house is an old idea that really works.
